About Northwest Georgia

• Location – Northwest Georgia’s Historic High Country is located south of Chattanooga, TN, to west of Atlanta in the Carrollton area to north of Atlanta in Woodstock, and up the I-575 / Hwy. 515 corridor to Blue Ridge.
  
  Major highways include Interstates 75, 20 and 575, US Highways 41 and 27, and GA Highway 515.
    
• Climate – Northwest Georgia is a great place to visit any time of year.  Spring is bright with new growth, lots of blooms and mild temps; Summers can be hot and humid, but often with cool evenings; Fall is colorful with brisk air and sunshine; Winters are usually mild with an occasional to rare light snow.
    
• Terrain – Northwest Georgia is known as the Land of Ridge and Valley.  The description comes from the finger-like mountain ranges that reach down from Tennessee with valleys stretching between them.  Most of the mountains in the region are foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains while those further west are part of the Cumberland Plateau, all a part of the overall Appalachian Mountains.
    
• Travel Tips – Traveling should be fun and easy!  Just a few things that might be helpful in planning your trip: 

Photos – Be sure to pack your camera.  There is so much to see!

Dining – Tap into your sense of adventure and try the local restaurants for a real taste of the South.  Ask the locals where they eat and what’s good.  Most of the time you won’t be steered wrong.

Internet Access – Most lodging properties have Internet access, and often free.  Check with the Visitor Information Centers, Convention and Visitor Bureaus or Chambers of Commerce to find the local Wi-Fi spots.

ATMs – Running short on cash?  Automatic Teller Machines are usually easily located in major communities.

Traveling with Kids – There is a variety of free and low cost activities in the region making it affordable for family travel.  Numerous parks are a great place to let the kids run off some of their seemingly unending supply of energy!

Transportation – Downtown areas are walkable, and a good opportunity to take in an area’s local flavor; however, most communities in northwest Georgia don’t have public transportation.  Be prepared to drive your own car or rent a vehicle to get around.
